The Qu’Appelle Valley, with its host of beautiful and bountiful, is a fitting setting for one of the largest fishing tournaments in the Province of Saskatchewan.

Each Labour Day weekend up to 300 fishermen from throughout the province and beyond descend onto Katepwa, Mission, Echo and Pasqua Lakes to take part in the Qu’Appelle Valley Walleye Cup International Tournament.

With $30,000 in cash plus merchandise prizes, it’s one of the most popular tournaments around. Prizes are given for the largest walleye as well as the heaviest two-day catch.

For 2008, the 18th annual Walleye Cup International will be held Saturday, August 30th and Sunday, August 31st. During the two-day tournament fishermen will test their skills on all four lakes.

Registration for the tournament is set for Friday, August 29th and pre-registration can be done by phoning (306) 332-5634, and can be done up to the day of the tournament. As a kickoff to registration, fishermen are encouraged to enter their crafts in the very popular boat parade that travels through downtown Fort Qu’Appelle.

The Walleye Cup is a part of a Walleye Trail tournament circuit that’s grown over the years. Fishermen, both professionals and novices, have made it a point to compete in the Qu’Appelle version. The Town of Fort Qu’Appelle comes alive with sportsmen who pit their skill and knowledge to capture the tournament title.

So end the summer with a bang and join the fun at the Walleye Cup.
