Melville in Bloom ~
Silhouettes
Melville in Bloom is an exciting volunteer program, an initiative designed to promote civic pride, environmental responsibility and beauty in our city.
Melville in Bloom provides and plants the flowers in the barrels, arranges for their transport around the city and provides summer care. Their barrel program has expanded from 25 barrels in 2000 to 65 barrels in 2007. Barrels can be sponsored for $30.
With the support of the Recreation Director, City Hall staff and Melville Public Works, Melville in Bloom plants and cares for sponsored beds and planters at various location around the city. As well, they care for beds at the Melville entrances, the Post Office , the Royal Bank corner, the CNR bed, the swimming pool and the raised beds on Horticulture Lane.
The committee also got involved in the Martha’s Garden
project at St. Peter’s Hospital, which salutes Sisters of St. Martha who operated the hospital of 40 years between 1940 and 1980.
The Melville Millennium Committee created a great legacy for Melville with the silhouette project and numerous silhouettes are now found throughout Melville recognizing businesses, service organizations, sports and cultural groups, churches and local citizens. These are:
